Benfica stumble again in league play at home to Braga

Benfica Blog
Benfica's poor form continues in a gut wrenching 1-0 loss at the Estadio da Luz to Braga. Benfica who have now lost two straight league games and are winless in three games for the first time under Bruno Lage when we count their midweek Taca de Portugal game, have turned a potential ten point league lead atop Portugal just last week to a potential one point league lead depending on the result of today's FC Porto-Guimaraes clash. Braga under new manager and former Benfica player Ruben Amorim walked into Lisbon and did something that had not been completed in 65 years in league play and that was earn a victory away from home sending Benfica into crisis mode.

Bruno Lage's men have looked out of sync in 2020 which does not bode well with this weeks upcoming Europa League encounter in the Ukraine as their is a high probability that the club could be winless in four games after it is all said and done. Lage in both losses has made the same mistake with his insistence on looking for the equalizing goal by having three central strikers on the pitch but no actual #10 to provide the flow of play to the strikers and could better optimize the club with a 3-4-1-2 when looking for an equalizer or game winning goal late in games. Mistakes have made it a race once again for the Portuguese title due to the clubs lack of awareness and lack of attacking prowl in 2020 and although some are comparing Lage to Vitoria, I would not say that is the case at all but a poor run of form with questionable decision making has breathed new life into what was an otherwise satisfying season for Benfica supporters until last night.
