As those arrive at Benfica, others must depart

The return of Jorge Jesus at Benfica was expected to see the club make some big changes as the former Benfica man looks to mold the squad to his competitive nature. Benfica have acquired six players over the last ten days in Jan Vertonghen, Cebolinha, Gilberto, Luca Waldschmidt, Pedrinho and Helton Leite but are also linked to a host of other players, most notably free agent striker Edinson Cavani.

Jesus has let it be known that he would like to work with 25 to 26 players on his main squad and with six players already added and potential for another two or three, expect some famaliar faces that we have come to know depart Benfica over the next few weeks as the club prepares for the upcoming Portuguese and European seasons.

Some of the names that look set to depart the club either through loan or being sold off could include these players below:

Mile Svilar - loaned out
Ivan Zlobin - loaned out
Jardel - retiring
Alex Grimaldo - sold
Ferro - loaned out
Florentino - sold
Fejsa - sold
Zivkovic - sold
Adel Taarabt - sold
Jota - loaned out
Krovinovic - sold
Seferovic - loaned out
Dyego Sousa - end of loan
Carlos Vinicius - sold

Now not all the players mentioned could be heading out and some players not included could join this list if there is a deal to good to pass on but one thing for certain is that the club that ended the season with a Taca de Portugal loss to rivals FC Porto will not be a Benfica club that we will see on a regular basis next season.
